Program Description
The Criminal Justice program at Blue Cliff
College prepares students for entry level positions
in the criminal justice system. The Criminal Justice
program provides the skills necessary to maintain law
and order, protect life and property, and conduct administration,
planning, and research services. The curriculum is designed
to provide students with communication, critical-thinking,
research, and organizational skills as well as
exposure to the procedural, substantive, behavioral,
and topical areas in the civil and criminal systems
within the United States and the state.
A Career in Criminal Justice
Graduates from the Criminal Justice program can pursue entry-level careers in corrections, security, government, juvenile justice, homeland security, as well as, other public and private agencies.
Criminal Background Check
There are many positions in the Criminal Justice field
that require the absence of any criminal history in
the applicant's background. Therefore, please be advised
that students enrolling in the Criminal Justice program
should be aware that they may be subjected to a criminal
background check when applying for a position in this
field.
Criminal Justice Diploma
There is no Diploma program in CJ and we do not anticipate
having one.

The Associate in Occupational Studies
Degree in Criminal Justice program prepares students
for entry level positions in the criminal justice system.
The associate degree curriculum is designed to provide
students with communication, critical-thinking,
research, and organizational skills. The curriculum
provides the skills necessary to maintain law and order,
protect life and property, and conduct administration,
planning, and research services.The associate degree
program includes a comprehensive study of the national
criminal justice system, correctional organizations,
and law enforcement agencies. Students will learn the
nature and extent of crime and delinquency, and the
cause and explanation of criminal behavior.
The curriculum offers a balance of theory
and application that provides a background
in specialized areas such as basic investigative techniques,
rules of evidence, and the philosophy of criminal law.
Students build the foundation for their criminal justice
career through the principles and practices learned
in the classroom.
Upon successful completion of the Associate in Occupational Studies Degree in Criminal Justice program, graduates may pursue a career in law enforcement, the court system, private security and investigations.
Graduates may also choose to pursue a career in human services areas including family services, victim services and youth counseling.
